Our Setting
At Bungalow Bairns, I have created a warm, welcoming, and stimulating environment where children can feel safe, secure, and happy while they learn and play. My home-based setting is designed to be a ‘home from home’ — a place where every child can explore, grow, and build lasting memories.
A Home From Home
My setting offers a cosy, family-friendly atmosphere with dedicated spaces for play, learning, rest, and meals. Children can enjoy a wide variety of age-appropriate activities, from creative arts and crafts to role play and storytime. I follow the principles of learning through play, ensuring each child develops key skills in a fun and engaging way.
Outdoor Adventures
I am a strong believer in the benefits of outdoor learning. With a secure garden space, children have the freedom to explore nature, enjoy fresh air, and take part in activities such as:
🌼 Gardening and nature walks
🧺 Outdoor picnics
🏃 Obstacle courses and physical play
🎨 Messy play and water play
I also take regular trips to local parks, playgroups, and community spaces to broaden the children’s experiences and encourage social interaction.
Learning Through Play
I structure my activities to support children’s learning and development through play, following the principles of the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence and Realising the Ambition. Children can enjoy:
🎨 Arts and crafts to encourage creativity
📚 Storytime to build language and literacy skills
🎲 Puzzles and games for problem-solving and cognitive development
🎵 Music and movement for self-expression and physical activity
Safe and Secure
As a former Police Officer specialising in child protection, safety is at the heart of my service. My setting meets all Care Inspectorate and Health & Social Care Standards, and I follow the Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) approach. I maintain a secure environment with childproofed areas and safe, age-appropriate toys and equipment.
Healthy Meals and Snacks
I provide nutritious, homemade meals and snacks, following the Setting the Table guidance for Early Years. Children enjoy a varied menu of healthy options, and I am happy to cater for allergies, preferences, and weaning needs.
Partnership with Parents
the best outcomes for children happen when we work together
I keep parents informed with regular updates, daily diaries, and photos of their child’s activities. I encourage open communication and welcome parent feedback to ensure I meet your child’s individual needs.
